What to do in your High Density Beds

This is a look at what to do month by month in your High Density Garden. It is currently a work in progress so it is not complete but will be added to over the year as this year progresses.

It is easy when you are inexperienced to just plant whatever you buy but some seeds will germinate easily in cold weather when other seeds will just rot in the ground and fail.

It is easy for me to tell you when to plant everything but everyone's climate is different. I am based in the UK and my brother lives on the east coast of Australia so when I am getting ready for Spring he is heading into the Fall. Many of my readers are from the UK but more live in the US. Here, you have a zoning system which is quite complicated. In the UK we have zones 7 to 10, in central Europe, excluding the UK and Ireland, the West can be as high as zone 9 down to zone 2 further East. In the US you can range from zone 11 down to zone 4 and Alaska is as low as zone 1 with Hawaii zone 11. Canada ranges from zone 8 on the West coast to zone 0 in the North.

As such it is very hard to give planting times for where you live as readers are not only based in the US but all over the world. I live in the UK in zone 8 so this information is based on this and you need to tailor this for where you live. A higher zone than 8 allows you to plant earlier whereas a lower zone means you need to plant a little later.

I always think you need local knowledge and I am also a big believer in reading the seed packet. In the US you often get the zone map printed on the back of the seed packet so use this as a guide.
